A well-proportioned and finely detailed Italian Renaissance revival design erected in 1887 to the plans of Evander McIver, a prominent local engineer and architect. It is a late but correspondingly sophisticated example of its type. The building was a rare excursion into classicism by McIver and is his only known design for a bank. By 1869 it was a two-storey building with its present stucco facade.
